Privacy Policy
This policy is provided as a clear summary of how Woolly Bug handles your data. It should be reviewed by a qualified adviser before publication.
This Privacy Policy explains how Woolly Bug ("Woolly Bug", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and protects your information when you use the Woolly Bug mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). Woolly Bug is based in the United Kingdom and is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect the details needed to authenticate you, such as your email address and authentication credentials. Account and sign-in are handled through our backend provider, Supabase.
Content you create
We store the content you add to the app — your fly tying inventory (materials, hooks, quantities, storage locations and any photos you attach), saved patterns and recipes, shopping baskets and notes. This content is yours.
Technical and usage data
We may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, and anonymised diagnostic or crash data to keep the app working and improve it. Aggregate download and usage statistics are provided to us by Apple via App Store Connect.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the Service — storing your inventory and syncing it across your devices.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To diagnose problems, fix bugs and improve features.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
Our lawful bases for processing are the performance of our contract with you (to deliver the Service), our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the app), and consent where required (for example, optional diagnostics).
3. Where your data is stored
Woolly Bug stores your inventory locally on your device so the app works offline. When you enable cloud sync, your data is also stored with our backend provider, Supabase, to back it up and keep it consistent across your iPhone and iPad. Data may sync directly between your own devices over your local network (WiFi-direct) without leaving your control.
4. Sharing and third parties
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show advertising in the app. We share data only with service providers that help us run the Service, acting as our processors:
- Supabase — authentication, database and cloud storage.
- Apple — app distribution, in-app purchases and aggregate analytics via the App Store.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
5. Data retention
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. The app's CSV export lets you download your inventory at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@woollybug.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to notify you of any breach where required.
8. Children
Woolly Bug is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Your data may be processed on servers located outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses) to protect your data in line with UK data protection law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where changes are significant, provide a more prominent notice.
